Lead Software Engineer

Cheltenham based with UK travel

£30,000 to £45,000 + Benefits


Role

Our current systems are built around exciting technologies including continuous integration, code generation and the latest Microsoft development tools.


You will be involved with maintaining and developing these systems as well as plenty of ‘File, New...’ development. You will be expected to research and keep abreast of new technologies to keep Linac at the cutting-edge of software development.

  • Development of web based solutions with ASP.NET 2.0  - C# (CSharp) and SQL
  • System architecture and database design
  • Systems analysis, functional specification
  • Management of source control, build and continuous integration across development, test and live environments
  • Project management and team coordination

Qualifications / Experience

First and foremost our main selection criteria is programming skill and technical ability. Extensive programming experience (especially working as part of a team) is crucial. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years working in software development, 2 or more in the following

  • Object oriented design and architecture
  • Web development with ASP.NET (preferably 2.0)
  • C# (CSharp)
  • Regular Expressions
  • HTML, XHTML and CSS and web standards
  • JavaScript
  • Relational database design and management with SQL Server
  • XML and XSLT

Experience working with the following would be beneficial

  • Agile software development methodologies
  • Code generation systems (specifically CodeSmith)
  • Continuous integration systems (specifically CruiseControl)
  • Project management, including accurate estimation of timescales
  • Client relationship management
  • Systems administration and maintenance
  • Source control solutions such as Team Foundation Server, SVN, Tortoise

Project Manager - Technology

Role

Your role will be concerned with liaising with clients, and managing a team of software developers and web designers, the core responsibilities are as follows

  • Maintain and develop relationships with current clients and future prospects
  • Project management / team coordination
  • Account management
  • Managing multiple simultaneous software development projects
  • Setting deadlines and key deliverables
  • Briefing the designers and programmers
  • Keeping track of progress and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Maintaining quality control
  • Managing the business analysis and requirements capture process
  • Assist the developers with establishing the scope of work, estimates, and resource plans

Qualifications / Experience

  • You should have excellent interpersonal skills, and ideally would have experience working in a similar role within technology, or another analytical field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to coordinate with technical leads, provide input on specific projects, and assist in collaboration on group standards

Web Developer

£25,000 to £30,000 + Benefits


Role

You will work in a team to produce cutting edge Microsoft ASP.NET applications powered by SQL server. You will work on new and existing applications, creating new functionality, controls, pages and sub systems. For this position the following will comprise the main duties and responsibilities

  • Development of web based solutions with ASP.NET 2.0 - C# (CSharp) and SQL
  • Systems analysis, functional specification and solution design
  • Personal task mangement

Some maintenance of existing (ASP.NET 2.0) systems is to be expected, but the bulk of your work will be new development

Qualifications / Experience

Our main selection criteria is programming skill and technical ability. A computer science degree (or similar) would be beneficial, but is not essential, extensive programming experience (especially working as part of a team) is crucial. The ideal candidate will have 2 or more years experience working in software / web development, specifically with 1 or more years experience in the following

  • Web development with ASP.NET 2.0 (alternatively 1.x, classic ASP or winforms)
  • C# (CSharp)
  • HTML, XHTML and CSS

Experience with the following would also be beneficial

  • Visual Studio 2003, 2005 or 2008
  • JavaScript
  • Regular Expressions
  • Knowledge of applied OPP principles
  • Knowledge of web standards
  • XML and XSLT
  • Web services
  • AJAX

Graphic Designer / Web Designer

Role

For this position the following will comprise the main duties and responsibilities :

  • Developing Linac branded material for marketing exercises as well as material aligned with client brands
  • Working closely with developers in the technology business to produce stunning page designs, visual elements, and implementing designs using CSS and HTML
  • Working closely with members of the training business to produce brochures, document templates and other print material

Qualifications / Experience

First and foremost – our main selection criteria is creative flair, a critical artistic eye, and technical design skills. You will have a solid design background and the ability to work in both print and digital mediums. You should be comfortable working with HTML and CSS and have examples of pages / sites you have designed and implemented. You should be comfortable working closely in a team, and ideally will have worked alongside developers on web projects. The ideal candidate will have between 2 and 4 years experience, and excellent skills / knowledge of

  • Adobe CS
  • Web standards design - HTML / XHTML and CSS

Experience with the following would also be beneficial, but not necessary

  • Dreamweaver
  • Expression
  • Flash and Action Script
  • And programming / scripting experience (e.g. Php, Javascript etc)

Applicants will be expected to provide either a physical or .pdf portfolio or live URLs to present their previous work. Any experience working within corporate training would also be beneficial but is not expected.
